Hope everyone is doing well!
Winter training is heating up, and I wanted to take a moment to reiterate an important message about training and workloads.
Training signups for the upcoming week open at Midnight on Fridays (1 minute after 11:59p Thursday haha). We issue a Prescribed Workload to ensure each player is training properly. Some players don’t train enough, while others overtrain—neither is beneficial. Based on our many years of experience, we strongly encourage you to follow the balanced workload we recommend.
The biggest issue I’m noticing is with players signing up for 3-5 Developmental classes per week in the same focus (e.g., Hitting). Players who do this often struggle in games with self-adjustments, critical thinking, and execution. These players are also more likely to skip Facility Use classes, which are crucial for building a well-rounded, independent, and successful player. While we love the enthusiasm of the players in our program, we don’t want to see them struggle in the spring because they didn’t train the right way.
Finally, the Prescribed Workload also considers other important areas of life that contribute to balance and growth: Family time, schoolwork, rest, and time with friends. If a coach determines that a player should attend more than the prescribed workload, they will communicate directly with the player and parent. The workload is not meant to restrict you—it’s designed to guide you!
Please make sure that both players and parents are receiving these messages. If not, you can add a person or phone number in your StatStak profile. If you have any questions, please reach out to Patrick directly at 551-427-4133.
